Michelle O’Donnell Keating and Niamh Gallagher accept the Women in Public Life Award at the Irish Tatler Women of the Year Awards.

Women for Election are delighted to have been honoured with the Women in Public Life award at Irish Tatler’s Women of the Year Awards. Every year, Irish Tatler runs this event to highlight the achievement of Irish women in all walks of life, from politics to culture to business.

Since 2012, Women for Election has been working hard to train and support women to run for public office, and we would like to thank everyone who helped us on this journey. Our alumnae and our supporters have been central to helping to develop our mission across Irish communities. Over 1000 women have gone through our trainings to date, and we are delighted to see so many now hold positions in local and national government.

The past year has been a massive success for female participation in Irish political life, with 35 women being elected to Dáil Éireann; a new record for Irish politics. While we are delighted that the percentage of women in the Dáil rose from 16% to 22%, we will continue to work to achieve our goal of gender equality in Irish politics.

We would like to say a big thank you to all at Irish Tatler for honouring us with this award and for highlighting the work of female leaders in all areas of Irish life.
